ABOUT US

Freedom Hill opened its cellar doors in November 2004.

Situated on the slopes of the Wemmershoek Mountain, this historic winery is nestled

between Franschhoek and Paarl.

Francois Klomp, an engineer by profession, and his wife, Adila, bought this beautiful 82-hectar farm in 1997.

With their vision and a small team they set out to create what has now

become a boutique wine estate.

The name Freedom Hill was inspired by the iconic South African, Nelson Mandela.

Our farm overlooks the legendary Victor Verster prison where Nelson Mandela took his first steps as a

free man on 11 February 1990, after 27 years in prison. As he walked out of the prison grounds

he looked straight onto the Wemmershoek Mountain where

our vines are planted today.

We at Freedom Hill celebrate the old and the new.

We honour the old by embrace the new. We encourage the new by putting

away their phones, laptops and all the loud noises of the world to experience their present with

pure freedom.

THE TEAM

Only hand-picked grapes find their way into our cellar where our winemaker, Helena Neethling, performs magic to capture nature's rich bounty in all of our wines.

The owner, Francois Klomp attends to all national and international sales.

Upon booking for a tasting you will be heartly welcomed by Estelle Domanse. She has been with the farm since 2006.

We have two permanent farm workers. The dynamic team Riccardo, Johan and Charles.

Together we strive to create a the perfect boutique wine experience.
